I grew up in a small fishing village on Margarita, a Caribbean island off the northern coast of Venezuela. From a young age, I was surrounded by poetry and creativity. Living in an environment where words and nature intertwined to tell stories profoundly shaped my view of the world. My connection to photography began when I borrowed a camera from my older brother. Since then, photography has been a constant companion in my life.

In 2013, my family and I embarked on a life-changing journey, emigrating to Australia in search of new experiences and opportunities. Sydney became our new home and provided the perfect backdrop for my visual storytelling. Here I have been able to capture a little of the essence of the creative life of the Northern Beaches, documenting local artists and their expressive processes.

Lockdowns in 2020 led me to navigate into self-portrait photography, a long-overdue task where I explore both the physical and emotional aspects of identity, immersing myself in self-reflection and the crafting of new narratives. It was during this time that I began working with cyanotype, a 19th-century photographic technique that I use to print my images with sunlight.

My work mainly focuses on fusions between real elements and photography, the creation of photograms and assemblages.  I like including recycled materials in my work, aligning my practice with my interest in sustainability and creating art that respects the environment. I believe in photography as a medium to invite reflection, self-awareness and social and environmental consciousness.

Recently, my work was recognised as a finalist in the Northern Beaches Environmental Art & Design Prize 2024. My passion for art led me to co-found Kayapa Creative Studio, where I dedicate myself to photographic projects for artists and creative entrepreneurs, as well as fostering creative communities on the Northern Beaches through initiatives like La Crème Creative Inc. and Brookvale Arts District (BAD).

As a resident of the Northern Beaches I extend my gratitude to the traditional custodians of this land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present, and future and celebrate the richness of Aboriginal cultures that continue to thrive here today.
